Mission: Defamiliarize

The assignment was to “make a set of ten photos which take something familiar to you–a town, building, object, etc.–and defamiliarize it, make it seem foreign. Use a mix of extreme closeups, weird lighting, foreground/background focusing and odd angles and other effects to make something that you know very well seem like something you’ve never seen before, something spooky and/or luminous and/or magical.”

Cool. I love photo essays like this. I imagine that each of these images would be the focus of someone in particular, who works with these objects. For the rest of us, these things go unnoticed. Looks like it made it over to ds106. Good work.

I love the third and the seventh photo the most, you really seem to have a keen eye for photography. The majority of people try to find beauty in the obvious such as nature, but by focusing on the industrial and man-made you gave your project much gravitas.
