Lyric Typography Poster

The assignment was to choose one of your favorite lines from a song and illustrate it using only typography. Consider how the font, color, sizes and placement of the typography can reflect or emphasize the meaning of the words. I’m not sure if I did this correctly, but I still think it came out kind of cool. I chose to do a poster for Coldplay’s song Fix You.

I like this for two reasons: I love Coldplay and I love “Fix You.” You know those few songs that people have that really mean something to them, something more than just a normal song because of some sort of personal experience or something that makes them really relate to it? “Fix You” has been one of those songs for me and my husband (when we first got together, we actually used to talk about how amazing it would be to see Coldplay and hear this song live, and this summer, over two years later, we found ourselves doing that very thing — one month after we were married!). SO, I said all that to say that, naturally, these lyrics caught my eye.

Now, about the picture itself. I definitely like the yellow of the lights against the black and white of the rest of the picture. The song has the feel of everything being gloomy except the lights that will guide us home, and that is represented here. Overall, this is just a cool project. Cool song, cool lyrics, cool idea, cool representation.
